Qualifications for Attendance

This event is for the following unpaid family caregivers: Caregiver caring for someone 60 years old or older; Caregiver of any age caring for someone with Alzheimers or other dementing disease; grandparent, great grandparent or relative 55 or older caring for grandchildren or kin under 19 years of age; parent or relative 60 years and older caring for disabled adult child or kin.

Mission

To provide a break offering education, self-renewal, supportive friendships and relaxation for unpaid family caregivers and relatives-as-parents.

Objectives

    1. Provide an annual respite weekend for family caregivers and relatives-as-parents
    2. Provide education to empower non-professional caregivers and relatives-as-parents, increasing their potential to better care for themselves and their families.
    3. Provide financial assistance to family caregivers or relatives-as-parents to cover costs of paid in-home or in-facility caregivers so they can attend the weekend; also to supplement the registration fee, if needed.
    4. Raise public awareness of the needs of family caregivers and relatives-as-parents .

 

A Gift of Time of Oregon is a project overseen by Malheur Council on Aging & Community Services.

This annual retreat is for unpaid family caregivers. It provides a relaxing weekend retreat with a variety of programs including: educational presentations, a resource fair, socials and fun activities. Another valuable aspect of the Gift of Time experience is the friendships that develop as the caregivers ‘share the caring’.
